Our Climate Action Plan

Version 1.0. Adopted by the directors of Clever Kombucha Ltd on 28 October 2026. Updated every year, and in full at least every 36 months.

Our commitment

You + I supports the global goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees. We commit to measuring our greenhouse gas emissions every year and reducing them over time.

Our carbon footprint so far

Our baseline year is the twelve months to 30 September 2026. This is a provisional figure: gas is measured from meter readings, electricity is an estimate from weekly meter readings, and some sources are not yet counted (business travel, commuting, waste, water, most inbound freight and the end of life of our packaging). We will confirm the baseline by 30 April 2027.

  • Scope 1 (direct, from gas): about 1.8 tonnes CO2e.
  • Scope 2 (purchased electricity, standard UK grid factor): about 9.9 tonnes CO2e.
  • Scope 3 (ingredients, glass and packaging, freight and more, partial): about 121.8 tonnes CO2e.
  • Total so far: about 133.4 tonnes CO2e, or about 0.25 kg CO2e per bottle.

Glass bottles are about 70% of our Scope 3 emissions, so packaging is where we can make the biggest difference.

Our targets

  • Scope 1 and 2: we do not yet set a numerical reduction target. Our baseline is provisional and some sources are not yet counted. By 30 April 2027 we will confirm the baseline and then add a dated Scope 1 and 2 reduction target to this plan, together with a date for renewable electricity once we know which route is open to us.
  • Scope 3: measure and manage our Scope 3 emissions every year, and decide once the baseline is confirmed whether to set a science-based target.

How we will get there

  • Energy. Improve efficiency at the brewery, including the new bottling line, and decide on renewable electricity by 30 June 2027, either a supplier tariff or renewable energy certificates (REGOs) bought separately and matched to our own meter readings. Keep weekly meter readings and confirm twelve months of real electricity readings by 17 July 2027.
  • Production. Reduce wastage, optimise the glycol and refrigeration loop, and monitor utilities.
  • Packaging. Lighter, high recycled-content, recyclable glass. We will get the carbon footprint and recycled content of every glass bottle from our suppliers by 30 June 2027, and set a recycled-content target for glass by 31 December 2027.
  • Logistics. Consolidate shipments and use lower-carbon transport, including for EU exports. We record parcel and pallet emissions every month.
  • Ingredients and suppliers. Favour organic and lower-impact inputs, and by 31 March 2027 ask the suppliers behind our five largest emission sources (glass, closures, tea, sugar and cardboard) for their carbon data.

Who is responsible, and how we work with others

A named director owns this plan and reviews progress at least once a year. Alex Cox leads the data and the brewery actions, and Alan Moore leads reporting, targets and supplier engagement. We work with our team through the staff forum and survey, with our glass, packaging and ingredient suppliers through our Supplier Code of Conduct and carbon data requests, with our hauliers and DPD, and with our customers. We report progress here every year.
