Meet The Team: Alan

Alan co-found You + I along with his wife Kelsey in 2017.  We caught up with him for a quick Q&A...

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm originally from N. Ireland but moved to Glasgow to study over 20 years ago and with the exception of a few years travelling I have been here ever since. I worked in IT/Web development before launching Clever Kombucha (now You + I) with Kelsey in 2017. We now have 3 young boys and live in the Southside of Glasgow.

What is your role at You + I and what does a typical work day look like for you?
I don't really have a defined role but I would say I am responsible for trying to make sure things run as smoothly as possible as well as the business/admin side of things. I usually start the day with replying to emails and checking in the brewery to make sure everything is okay there. The rest of the day is usually spent helping solve any problems that have popped up, bookkeeping, general paperwork and working on strategy/planning.

What do you enjoy the most about working at You + I?
The thing I enjoy most is being able to look at how far we've come as a business. We started out from our flat with no money and very little idea about what we were doing. It has been a really difficult journey but we are exceptionally proud of what we have created. In terms of work I still love web design/development so like working on the ecommerce side of the business and streamlining our order/dispatch process.

What is your favourite You + I Drink?
Lemon Lavender kombucha!

What do you like doing in your spare time?
Outside of the business I really enjoy playing squash though this took a bit of a back seat once we had kids. Our oldest boy is 6 and has started playing squash now so I think I will just live my dreams through him!
On weekends I can usually be found drinking coffee and wandering around Queens Park.
